It is with great sadness that the Terrebonne family marks the passing of our beloved teacher, friend and colleague Mrs. Denise Saucier, who died Monday, at her home, in peace, and surrounded by her loved ones.  She was an amazing teacher, one gifted with both great knowledge and a kind heart.  Her love for her students and Terrebonne High School was unsurpassed.  During the last three years, her valiant fight has been one we can all draw inspiration from by the example of her strength and determination.  Mrs. Saucier taught math and computer science at Terrebonne High these last 23 years.  She has been one of the most innovative teachers at our school, especially through her computer science classes.  She was nominated as “Teacher of the Year” by the Terrebonne faculty in 2011 and was TFAE “Inspirational Teacher of the Year” these last two years, nominated by her students.  She is survived by her husband Mike and two sons Brandon and Ryan.  Please remember her family and friends in the days and weeks to come.  Arrangements for Mrs. Saucier are visitation Saturday, May 13 from 8:00am until 11:00am at St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church, 333 Twin Oaks Drive in Raceland.  Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00am. Students will begin taking their state mandated EOC tests this month.  These “End of Course Tests” are graduation requirements by the state that every child must pass in order to receive their diploma.  Please have your child at school these days, well rested and prepared.  EOC test results make up a large percentage of Terrebonne High’s SPS or “School Performance Score” the grade we receive from the State of Louisiana Department of Education.  These test results will help us regain our “A” school rating here at Terrebonne High.  Please refer to the schedule below and discuss with your child the importance of doing well on these tests.

In their annual review of the nation’s 22,000 high schools, U.S. News and World Report named Terrebonne High a bronze medal school and rated THS as one of the nation’s leading high schools.  Only the top 30% of the nation’s high schools receive this distinction from the magazine.  Terrebonne High was ranked 30th in schools in Louisiana out-ranking all the other high schools in Terrebonne Parish and the surrounding parishes of Lafourche and St. Charles.  Criteria used for judging schools included a high graduation rate, college preparedness (number of AP courses offered and high ACT scores), the performance of minority students and low-income students as compared to those nationally, and that students at Terrebonne High outperform both the district and state on EOC tests in English and Math.  We are proud of the great work of our faculty and student body at THS in achieving this national recognition.
